Arts and drama

If you're interested in the arts or drama, we have a lot to offer - the College hosts regular workshops, exhibitions, and events.

Societies and clubs

Eliot's Face is a student-run art zine which accepts themed submissions of any kind from members of the College community. The zine is released termly as both an online and printed edition.

Film @ Jesus is a student-run film club which runs regular screenings and termly short film competitions. It aims to bring together like-minded individuals with a passion for film and foster a connected creative community.

Students, Fellows and staff are all welcome at ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±ºÅÂë Art Club, which meets regularly during term time. Materials are provided by the College and the organisers set up a subject each week and offer informal support. Members can also use the space to work on their own projects.

ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±ºÅÂë Drama Society runs regular writing and performance workshops in College, aiming to encourage creative talent within the community.

ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±ºÅÂë Music Society holds many free recitals a term and several large orchestral concerts a year. They also organise the much-loved annual performance of The Snowman in Michaelmas term.

Led by author Emily Winslow, ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±ºÅÂë Writing Club holds regular creative writing workshops for students, Fellows and staff during term time. Each session is a mixture of teaching, discussion, writing, and (optional) sharing, where members are encouraged to develop their personal writing style as well as experimenting with unfamiliar forms of writing.

Students run the annual John Hughes Arts Festival, an interdisciplinary celebration of openness, spectacle, and collaboration which usually includes an Open Hang Gallery featuring artwork submitted by students, artists, and friends of the College. The Gallery is accompanied by a range of creative workshops and events.

Exhibitions

We have a permanent sculpture exhibition in the grounds of the College.

Our undergraduates also have an art collection which includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, and prints by a variety of artists, many well known. For a small deposit, students can borrow pieces from the collection to decorate their rooms.

I chose ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±ºÅÂë because of the great mixture of undergraduates and postgraduates, and when I first visited I thought it was the most beautiful place I had ever seen! The sense of community in Jesus has had an enormous impact on my experience here. Whether you need help, advice, cheering up or even just a chat there is always someone there to put a smile on your face. From the MCR committee to the Porters, the canteen staff to the gardeners, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Jesus also...

ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±ºÅÂë has been a great home for me during my PhD. I chose ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±ºÅÂë for a number of reasons – first, the location. We are central enough to be within easy walking distance of most things, but far enough away to avoid the hustle and bustle (and tourists in summer!). The College also has extensive grounds, with amenities like the hockey pitch, football pitch and tennis courts all on site. Secondly, the accommodation is some of the best I’ve seen in Cambridge. My house was newly renovated when...

When applying to Cambridge colleges it can feel a bit overwhelming as there are so many to choose from. I applied to ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±ºÅÂë because it has a large MCR which was important for me because I wanted to feel part of a community. Now that I’m doing my PhD here, I’m very glad I did choose a college with a large postgraduate community. Throughout the year there are lots of postgraduate events, including formal dinners, special formals at Christmas and Easter, bops in the bar and film nights in...

I chose Cambridge for my PGCE as it’s the leading UK institution for teacher training and Education, with an exciting, research-dominated, cutting edge course. The staff are welcoming and approachable, and make studying here an absolute joy. I’ve already completed one of my three primary school placements, in a reception class in a school just outside Cambridge, and am due to start the next one soon. I chose Jesus because of its reputation as a sporty College, but the proximity to the city centre is a big bonus. Jesus also...

There are many reasons why I’m so happy to be a part of ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±ºÅÂë. The three biggest reasons for me are the opportunities to be involved in College sport, the support the College provides for me with for my research and the help in making sure that we have comfortable, affordable accommodation when we have needed it. ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±ºÅÂë is so friendly and so it is incredibly easy to get involved in the sport and social side of the College. The MCR does a great job in welcoming new...
