Join us at our second annual breakfast roundtable event, with four successful ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±ºÅÂë alumni who have carved out careers in the creative industry. The event will feature a panel discussion followed by breakout sessions where you can ask questions, network with industry professionals, and gain practical tips on starting your own creative career. Hear from a BBC Question Time Researcher, an ITZA Learning Producer, a British Film Industry DIT Trainee, and a talented writer as they share their career journeys and offer valuable insights into the world of creative industries.

We are delighted to be joined by the following participants:

Angus Harron (2019)

I’m a freelance journalist, currently working as a senior researcher for BBC Question Time, the BBC’s flagship political debate programme.

This principally involves researching and writing the briefs our presenter, Fiona Bruce, uses to chair the debate each week, and booking the guests that come on the show. I also get to interview prospective panellists to judge whether they’re a good fit for the show, and film and edit social media videos.

The job also involves working with the rest of the 4-person editorial team to help shape the debate and travelling to the filming location each week. I’ve therefore been on-site for some big shows, including our general election ‘Leader’s Special’ programmes, which were large-scale productions.

I graduated from ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±ºÅÂë with a degree in History in 2022 and started a Masters in Broadcast Journalism at City University, London the following September, where I trained in TV, radio and social media journalism. I’d done some presenting and sports commentating at Cam FM and helped out with ‘Virtual Jesus’, a COVID-era project at College that the Master started – but didn’t have so much journalistic experience, not having worked much for Varsity or other student publications.

I also have some experience in freelancing and can speak about some of the (surmountable) challenges of building up one’s portfolio in the worlds of media and journalism – not least because I’m still in the relatively early stages of doing just that!

Matt Griffiths (2019)

I am a producer currently working as a learning producer at ITZA, a digital educational start-up.  My journey into media and production began during my time at university during the pandemic working closely with the Master on the "Virtual Jesus" platform. From there I pursued my passion for sports journalism by volunteering for The Bluebird sport journalism platform while also presenting a regular show, The Lions Den, alongside fellow guest and my great friend Angus Harron on CamFM, the university’s radio station.

After university, I began freelancing, working closely with Simon Hughes aka 'The Analyst', a former professional cricketer turned broadcaster. This opportunity provided me with valuable insights into the world of sports journalism from a seasoned professional. My main role was producing Storylines: The Women's Cricket Podcast covering the women’s ashes last summer.
At ITZA, I have found my background in science (I was a Bio NatSci specialising in PDN), and sports journalism has helped me produce content on cricket, reptiles and space so far. My current project is about purposeful investment in a wider move from ITZA to create educational content to improve financial literacy in young people.

More Bios Coming Soon!
